Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdellatif al-Ziyani said today (Sunday) that he welcomes the results of the Israeli elections and "wishes success to the new government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and really looks forward to working with him to continue developing and expanding the important achievements we have achieved".

At a briefing for reporters in President Yitzhak Herzog's entourage to Bahrain, Ziyani was asked about the composition of the new government and the far-right partnership and said: "We will work together with the government to strengthen the concept of peace, and we believe that the message will be conveyed to all those who doubt peace. Referring to the possibility that the designated Minister of Internal Security Itamar Ben Gabir will seek to change the status quo on the Temple Mount, the Bahraini Foreign Minister said: "We will see when it happens."

In response to the question of whether Bahrain would cooperate with extremist elements in the government, he said: "We will cooperate with everyone."

A-Ziani commented positively on Netanyahu's return and said "Prime Minister-designate Netanyahu signed the Abraham Accords and we believe that he believes in peace and the principles of the Abraham Accords."

He also thanked Prime Ministers Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett "for their help and support for peace in the region and for their commitment to the Abraham Accords and the launch of the Negev Forum that formalizes the Abraham Accords."

Earlier today, the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa said in his meeting with President Yitzhak Herzog that his country sees the necessity of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian people.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain firmly believes that dialogue and a peaceful and civilized approach are necessary to resolve regional and international conflicts, and to guarantee the people's rights to security, development and prosperity," he said.

"We emphasize our firm position that calls for achieving a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace, which will guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and will lead to stability, development and prosperity for both the Palestinian people and the Israeli people, as well as all the peoples of the region."

These words were said in a meeting between the king and the president, after the latter arrived this morning for his first state visit to Bahrain, and became the first Israeli president to visit the Persian kingdom.

"I thank you for the honorable welcome as the first President of the State of Israel to visit the Kingdom of Bahrain, this is a great moment," Herzog told the king.

"You are one of the founding fathers of peace in the region and the Abraham Accords. It's a long process, but we see that our countries have joined the search for peace."
