Ready, set, go!

Are you ready for one of THE absolute classic Christmas cookies?

Colorful cookie cutters (at home we say "Ausstecherle" 😅) are not only popular with children, but also with adults.

The reason is obvious: simple recipe, simple preparation and you can really let off steam with the decoration.

Our cookie cutter recipe is a classic

3-2-1 shortcrust pastry without the egg

.

This makes it taste particularly fine and tender.

That's how it's done:

You only need a few ingredients:

  • Dough:

  • 300 grams of flour

  • 200 g butter, soft

  • 100 grams of sugar

  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar

  • Decoration as you like:

  • couverture

  • Frosting (made with lemon juice and powdered sugar)

  • Chopped almonds

  • Colorful sugar sprinkles

The preparation is simple and quick:

  • For the dough:

Mix the flour, butter, sugar and vanilla sugar into a dough using the dough hook of a hand mixer.

If necessary, continue kneading with your hands and shape the dough into a ball.

  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

  • Halve the dough ball and roll out on a lightly floured work surface to about 0.5 cm thick.

  • Cut out shapes of your choice and place on a baking sheet.

  • Bake at 160°C for about 12 minutes until light brown.

Take out and let cool completely.

  • Decorate with icing, couverture, sugar sprinkles or chopped almonds as you wish.

  • Relish!

  • With this selection of colorful cookie cutters, I can't decide which cookie to choose!

    The recipe is here.

My personal top tips for perfect cookie cutters

I have baked many Christmas cookies in my life.

    The reason: my mom.

Although she doesn't describe herself as a master baker and really doesn't like baking cakes, she surpasses herself in the run-up to Christmas.

Every year she bakes more than 25 varieties, many of which are given away and even more are eaten by us.

But we – the children – first have to earn a colorful tin filled with Christmas cookies by helping diligently in the Christmas bakery.

And along the way, I learned these tips for perfect cookie cutters:

    • Do not roll out the dough on a floured work surface but between two layers of

      cling film

(advantage: the dough composition is not changed and the biscuit remains tender).

    • Put the rolled out dough in the fridge (or even better, put it on the

      cold balcony tiles

      - don't worry, it's protected by the foil).

    • Cut out ice- cold

      and hard

      dough

      as

      you like

once the top foil has been removed and place on a baking sheet.

Even the finest motifs stay in shape.

    • Before baking, brush the cookies lightly with

      egg yolk

      for a nice

      shine

      .

With these tips nothing can go wrong in your Christmas baking.

And if you are still looking for a suitable drink for your Christmas baking, we have something for you: This Hot Aperol is your ticket back to your summer vacation on cold days.
