Operation Oz Rays began today (Sunday) and as part of it, a Karni crossing in the area of the security barrier on the border of the Gaza Strip will be dismantled, and a ground barrier will be built in its place.
Operation Oz Rays will last several weeks, during which work will be carried out in the area of the barrier, led by the Directorate of Borders and Seam at the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Gaza Division.
This is an operation designed to improve defense in this area, which takes place as part of the improvement of defense in the entire border area with the Gaza Strip.
The Karni crossing was used for the passage of goods and workers, until in 2011 it was decided to stop its activity, after several attacks that occurred there, since then all goods pass through the Kerem Shalom crossing and workers through the Erez crossing.
