A Twitter user posted a photo of a Maultasche and called it a "Baden Twix".

This unleashed a wave of outrage.

Stuttgart - When it comes to cultural appropriation, heated debates are held.

The question then becomes to what extent people are allowed to use another culture.

For example, people like to discuss whether white people should wear dreadlocks.

Fundamentally, cultural appropriation is a topic that is no longer taken very seriously by many, as a discussion on Twitter showed.

The trigger for this was a picture of a double maul bag that had already been bitten off, as reported by BW24.

"Badische Twix", the user tweeted with a good dose of humor - and thus drove many a reader up the wall.

According to legend, Maultaschen are Swabian

Because Maultaschen were originally not supposed to be a Baden specialty, but a Swabian specialty.

"When a Karlsruher describes the most Swabian of all foods as Baden.

Can't make it up..." wrote one.

"What Badenian?" wondered another.

However, some felt spurred on by the joke and so there were one or two alternative suggestions such as "Baden Bounty" or "Baden Raider".

The latter is the predecessor brand name of Twix.

However, most users, probably Swabians, felt attacked and one took it to the extreme with his tweet.

It said: “This is cultural appropriation.

That doesn't work at all!" Another agreed and explained: "Maulbronn is old Württemberg and the company headquarters of Bürger is in Ditzingen, but that's also something of Württemberg." Accordingly, another user in his comment does not think the initial tweet is anything other than a "scandal".

Do Maultaschen come from Italy?

According to legend, Maultaschen are said to have originated in a monastery in Maulbronn (Baden-Württemberg).

Supposedly, a lay brother wanted to hide the meat from God during Lent and thus invented the so-called "Lord's brats".

However, experts assume that Maultaschen come from Italy.

In any case, the discussion has nothing to do with cultural appropriation.

In doing so, cultural elements of a marginalized group would have to be adopted.

And Swabians are probably not marginalized.
