"Berlin delivers": Franziska Giffey had recently praised a billion-dollar package from Berlin.

In Bavaria and Hesse they are angry - the CSU shoots back sharply.

Berlin/Munich – The federal capital has its next scandal: the Berlin elections have to be repeated in view of the chaotic conditions during the vote in February.

The (for the time being) Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) recently saw reason to be “envious” of Berlin.

Among other things, it now uses a demonstrative Rüffel from Bavaria.

Before Berlin election: CSU scoffs at “Failed State” – and refers to billions from Munich

"One look at the chaos capital is enough to see: pity would be appropriate, envy certainly not," explained CSU General Secretary Martin Huber to the

Tagesspiegel

.

With a view to the financial situation, Huber added that Berlin is the "failed state" among the federal states - even though the state receives 3.6 billion euros a year from the financial equalization.

The Bavarian state government of Markus Söder (CSU) is currently examining a lawsuit for a “maximum” on his contributions to the compensation pot.

Bavaria is "the good Samaritan of Germany," Söder complained at a CSU retreat in September.

Berlin under criticism: Giffey's government praised a billion-euro package – Hessen was also angry

The history of the dispute: In mid-November, Berlin decided on an aid package worth three billion euros.

Giffey openly taunted several other state governments at the time.

“Measures are still being discussed in Düsseldorf, Wiesbaden and even in Munich.

We are agreeing on a relief package here today that is quite unique in a federal comparison," she said.

The Senate Chancellery provided the self-confident announcement on Facebook with the hashtag "#berlinliefert".

Criticism from Hesse countered Giffey with the reference to "envy of Berlin".

Hessen also protested against the assertion.

An aid program will also be presented on Monday (December 5), Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) told the

Tagesspiegel

.

You can pay for it, even though Hesse pays billions into the state financial equalization system every year.

Elections 2023: Berlin has to do it again after the chaos - state financial equalization topic in Bavaria and Hesse

Bavaria and Hesse will also vote in 2023 - but according to rotation.

The inter-state financial equalization is an election campaign issue.

For example, the Free Voters in Hesse are demanding a new regulation.

Söder also added again at the end of October.

Every Bavarian citizen pays around 1,000 euros for a Berliner and even 1,200 euros for a Bremen man, he said at the CSU party conference in Augsburg.

On February 12, the House of Representatives election will be repeated in Berlin.

The first round was partly chaotic.

Ballot papers were missing, bars stayed open longer, but some voters went home without having achieved anything.

The Berlin Constitutional Court therefore declared the elections invalid in mid-November.
