He walked next to the tracks and was hit by a freight train despite emergency braking.

A 24-year-old was seriously injured in the accident in the Upper Palatinate.

Nittendorf - In Nittendorf (Regensburg district), a man was hit by a freight train on Friday, December 2nd and seriously injured.

This was announced by the Federal Police Inspectorate in Waldmünchen on Monday.

According to this, the man walked next to the tracks on the Nuremberg-Regensburg railway line and was hit by a freight train.

The emergency control center of Deutsche Bahn AG reported a personal accident to the federal police station in Regensburg around 5 p.m.

According to the report, a freight train had hit a man on the Nuremberg-Regensburg route in the direction of Regensburg near Etterzhausen.

A contingent of rescue workers and patrols from the Nittendorf Police Inspectorate and the Regensburg Federal Police Station immediately rushed to the scene.

According to initial findings, the accident victim walked along the track in the gravel bed.

The man did not respond to the driver's whistle.

Despite emergency braking, the 24-year-old was caught and thrown against a power pole.

Rescue workers from the Bavarian Red Cross and Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe as well as an emergency doctor first treated the seriously injured at the Etterzhausen train station.

The young man then came to the University Hospital in Regensburg.

The railway line was closed for around two hours.

Police warn after accident on tracks

Police investigations are continuing.

The man could not be questioned about the accident.

The Federal Police Waldmünchen warns in this context:

  • Unauthorized stay in the track area is life-threatening

  • Trains have a long braking distance and, depending on the wind direction, can often only be seen very late.

    By the time you notice the train, it may already be too late to escape from the danger zone
