Pöcking - With the concept of offering a lesson in the third grades of elementary schools in the district, the waste management company Starnberg (Awista) tackles the topic of environmental education at an early age.

The girls and boys get to know responsible environmental behavior, waste avoidance and the system of waste disposal in the district of Starnberg.

District administrator Stefan Frey also wanted to get an idea of the campaign and visited the Pöcking elementary school.

"With this school offer, the Awista Starnberg makes a significant contribution to creating more awareness for the topics of waste avoidance, resource efficiency and reuse at an early age and thus gaining even more acceptance in the Starnberg district," said District Administrator and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the waste management company, Stefan Frey, enthusiastic about the offer on site.

How long does chewing gum naturally decompose?

Every day, the children experience first-hand what it means when rubbish is simply thrown away in parks, on the way to school, in schoolyards, streets or other public places.

The employees of the Awista Starnberg try to deal with the topic of waste in the environment in a playful lecture.

For example, who knows how long it takes for chewing gum to decompose in nature?

But also what happens to our waste after it ends up in the garbage can at the house, in the garbage house at the housing complex or at the recycling center.

The lecture addresses what actually happens to our organic waste, paper, cardboard, cardboard and packaging waste in the yellow bag and how difficult it is to sort out so-called waste from the waste again.

The interesting lesson ends with a specially developed sorting game in which the students have to prove that they have now become waste experts.

The best waste expert in the class receives a small gift for this.

As a reminder, all children are given pen sharpeners in the shape of a small rubbish bin and matching colored pencils.

The "Awista school lesson" has been around for a year - 600 boys and girls have already taken part

In addition, all elementary schools in the district have the option of supplementing or extending the "AWISTA school lesson" with a recycling center tour.

The municipal company already offers the tours to schools for the second graders.

But secondary schools, communities or organizations can also contact the disposal company for a guided tour.

Last year, at the start of the "AWISTA school lesson", seven schools with 17 classes and a total of over 400 children took part.

In addition, 24 guided tours with around 600 children took place at the Awista Starnberg recycling center in the district.

The municipal company is pleased about the positive response from the schools this year as well.

The "Awista school lesson" is currently taking place at eight schools in 20 classes in the district.

Interested teachers from primary schools in the district of Starnberg are of course welcome to contact Marina Stöger, telephone 08151/2726-402, or email marina.stoeger@awista-starnberg.de.
