The district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen has been awarding a prize every two years since 1993 to honor exemplary initiatives in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation

As part of a ceremony in the district office, the team from the "Tölza Gardens", the Lenggrieser "Biotop Oberland" and the staff of the Tölz unpackaged shop "Ois Ohne" accepted the environmental award.

Accompanied by the subtle harp and dulcimer sounds of the duo Via Corda, three laudators in the district office honored the merits of the three prizewinners.

"Everything that is of any standing in the area of the environment in the district is represented in the hall tonight," said Thomas Holz happily.

The Vice District Administrator chaired the award ceremony on behalf of District Administrator Josef Niedermaier and first recalled the history of the environmental prize, which is endowed with 1,500 euros.

"So far, 59 initiatives and organizations have received awards," reported Holz.

A total of 10,000 euros was collected for the subscription voucher campaign

The Committee for the Environment, Infrastructure and Tourism had already decided on the awarding of the 2021/22 environmental prize on July 11 in a non-public meeting.

The choice fell on the "Tölza Garten", the Lenggrieser "Biotop Oberland" and the unpacked shop "Ois Ohne" in Bad Tölz.

The latter fought successfully for economic survival.

The Mayor of Tölz, Ingo Mehner, was impressed that the 179 participating comrades and other patrons raised 10,000 euros with a large-scale subscription voucher campaign.

"Today it's not about thriving businesses, but about the idea," he clarified in his laudatory speech.

Mehner remembered his childhood when an environmentally harmful plastic bag was immediately handed to him at the supermarket checkout.

"Thank God we're a long way from that today," said the laudator.

The concept of the unpackaged shop not only convinces many customers because of the savings in plastic waste, but also because of the targeted selection of products.

The regional approach inspired the mayor of Lenggries

The mayor of Lenggries, Stefan Klaffenbacher, praised the regional approach of the “Biotop Oberland” cooperative.

"Consumers and producers are moving closer together again without handing over responsibility to large corporations and middlemen," he praised.

The farm, founded in 2018, grows its Bioland-certified vegetables on 1.6 hectares of open land and in six greenhouses.

“Biotop Oberland” reduces CO2 consumption through short transport routes.

"In this cooperative, solidarity and the common good are more important than maximizing profits," emphasized Klaffenbacher.

Things got really tight on stage at the award ceremony for Rose-Marie Beyer and her many helpers.

In 2014, she founded a 3,000 square meter self-sufficient garden at the Franziskus Center in Tölz with activists from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district nature conservation group.

common good instead of profit

Third District Administrator Klaus Koch thanked Beyer for the fact that more than 100 families are now growing their own vegetables there and school children are also learning to grow their own food.

"Every Tölz child should experience the garden side of being human," said Koch.

In addition, the former monastery area has established itself as a place of biodiversity.

Because in addition to the beds used for gardening, fruit trees and a bird feeder hedge, for example, grow there.

While the honorees were still able to speak during the official part of the business award ceremony of the district in the Geretsrieder Ratsstubensaal in October, the district office opted for a compression of the ceremony this time and refrained from further speeches.

All the more time was left for the subsequent social get-together in the foyer.

The Geretsrieder catering company Schmid-Bäck' served schnitzel, goulash, spaetzle and vegetables.
