The renovation of Obere Hauptstrasse is almost complete.

A few vacant lots will not be closed until 2023.

Nevertheless, it is already celebrated.

Freising

- It is the hardest construction phase of the entire Freising inner city redevelopment: the renewal of the upper main street including the Moosach opening.

After two and a half years of construction, the work there is almost complete - reason for Aktive City to celebrate a big party with the population before Christmas.

As Michael Schulze, coordinator of the inner city redevelopment, reported on Monday during a press conference in Freising town hall, around 95 percent of the measures on Obere Hauptstraße have been completed.

"Unfortunately, a few smaller areas have to remain open because the construction company that was already in charge of preparing the surface of Untere Hauptstrasse cut too many stones," explained Schulze.

New plaster must now be delivered later.

Obere Hauptstraße can be opened to traffic before Christmas

Two other measures that cannot be completed as planned will also be postponed to spring: the erection of the war memorial and the completion of the fourth and last point of the Moosach opening near Bahnhofstrasse.

As reported, the base of the war memorial was set too low.

The monument, which had already been erected, had to be lifted up again by a large excavator.

"The new foundation has now been concreted," said Schulze.

The lower row with the pool is to be set in the next two weeks and then made winterproof.

The monument will be erected in the spring.

In the last Moosach section, the seating blocks are still missing, which also have to be reproduced due to a breakdown.

The last paving stones for this year are to be set by the end of the week and grouted next week, Schulze reported.

"The plan is that we can open the road to traffic on December 22nd or 23rd."

Free mulled wine and free sausages await the public

The first celebration in the newly designed urban space is to take place before that: On Friday, December 16, from 2 p.m., a “Christmas pre-opening party for Obere Hauptstraße will take place, as organizer Max Kirchmaier from Aktive City announced.

"I had imagined something small," reported Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher with a smile.

"But Max obviously doesn't do small parties."

Mulled wine and sausages are free while stocks last.

Santa comes by with a team of horses.

Photographs by Hermann Reichenwallner on the advertising pillars offer impressions of two and a half years of life on the construction site.

A children's program with Christmas stories takes place in the Furtnerbräu.

The HICAP cultural school offers capoeira taster courses for children, young people and adults.

The wind ensemble of the music school performs.

And later in the night you can dance for the first time in the Furtner's Karl-Obermayr-Stüberl.

Downtown business people have long suffered from the construction site.

Now there is a great desire to use the newly acquired urban space for the first time.

Max Kirchmaier, Active City Freising

"The business people in the city center have now suffered from the construction site for a long time," reports Kirchmaier.

"Now there is a great desire to use the newly won urban space for the first time." Even the biggest critics of the renovation would not have missed the opportunity to take part in the festival.

The actual opening ceremony will take place next year when the last vacant lots on Obere Hauptstrasse have been closed.

The Mayor has already revealed the date for this festival: May 16th.
