Maria Kolesnikova is smiling: the flutist, who in August 2020 became one of the leaders of the Belarusian democratic protest against the rigging of the elections by the dictator Alexander Lukashenko, was photographed in the hospital in the city of Hummel.
She is hospitalized there after a week ago she was evacuated from the detention facility in serious condition and needed intensive care and urgent surgery.
The official diagnosis was not given, but it is estimated that Kolesnikova, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison, suffered from an ulcer in the digestive system.
She is expected to remain under observation for at least another ten days.
