A nightmare in Malaysia: in the country, a case is being reported in which a giant sea crocodile preyed on a one-year-old in front of his father.
According to the report in "Star", the incident occurred while the father was fishing and the toddler was next to him in a boat.
Suddenly, the father said, a 3-meter crocodile emerged from the water and attacked the toddler.
The father tried to fight the predator, but to no avail.
The crocodile dived into the water together with the toddler - and disappeared.
The father, whose identity has not been revealed, was injured in the fight and required stitches.
When the case became known, an operation was launched to locate the predator.
"It is very difficult to catch the crocodile," said a senior official at the Nature Authority of the Sabah province in the Malaysian part of the island of Borneo.
"Our guards killed one crocodile, but found out that it was not the crocodile that attacked the boy."
The rivers and coastal areas where the horrific attack happened are inhabited by crocodiles - animals with strong jaws and 80 sharp teeth.
Crocodiles are considered more aggressive than their freshwater relatives.
Some become even more aggressive when they lose their fear of humans - for example, when they get used to being fed by humans.
In August, a 25-year-old man was devoured who entered a nearby lagoon despite warnings about the danger of crocodiles.
The crocodile was seen swimming with the body between its jaws.
However, such assault cases are rare.
