The Russian Foreign Ministry denied any negotiations with Kyiv about a safe area at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, pointing to discussions with the IAEA about the plant's radiation protection.
Russia Today quoted ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying, commenting on the statements of the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, that the agency's experts are about to reach an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on a safe area in Zaporozhye: “It should be noted that there are no direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. On a safe area around the Zaporozhye plant, however, there are ongoing discussions with the agency about possible criteria for a radiological and physical protection zone for the Zaporozhye plant while the agency is trying to interact with Ukraine.
Zakharova added: It is too early to say that the two sides are in the process of reaching an agreement, while the question remains whether Kyiv is ready to commit to stopping the bombing of the station and attempts to recover it, and whether the International Atomic Energy Agency will be able to ensure the implementation of these agreements by the Ukrainians.
