Academic success starts very early.
From elementary school, children do not leave with the same chances.
“Students from culturally and also economically favored families often have the best academic performance,”
explains Hélène Buisson-Fenet, sociologist of education policies at the CNRS.
To measure these differences between schools, the Ministry of National Education has created a statistical tool: the IPS (Social Position Index).
This is a “score” specific to each school, set according to the socio-professional background of the families (see detailed methodology).
This statistical tool - which was kept secret until now - can be used to compare all public and private establishments, district by district.
