Rabbi Sternberg struggled for years with cancer • In 1997 he founded the Har Hamor Yeshiva • He was identified as a supporter of the Noam party, but was rarely interviewed • Regarding Rabbi Tau's case, he said: "Are the talmidim dangerous people? Empty and empty words"

Rabbi Mordechai Sternberg, head of the Har Hamor yeshiva - the flagship yeshiva of the ultra-orthodox community, and one of the most significant rabbis in religious Zionism, passed away today (Monday) after a long battle with cancer. In recent years, Rabbi Sternberg had been dealing with the disease, but on Saturday night his condition worsened. And his family held a prayer for his healing at the Western Wall.

I am saddened by the death of the head of the Mount Mor yeshiva, Rabbi Mordechai Sternberg, a righteous man of blessing, a holy man who devoted his entire life to learning and spreading the holy Torah.

A great loss to the people of Israel in his departure from our people.

May his soul be bundled in the bundle of life.

Rabbi Shterberg was born a few weeks after the establishment of the state to the rabbi of the Kfar Pins settlement.

He studied and was educated at the Netiv Meir Yeshiva, at the Hezekiah Knesset Yeshiva and at the Rabbi Center Yeshiva.

At the age of 25, he was appointed a rabbi (educator rabbi) at the Rabbi Center yeshiva by Rabbi Zvi Yehuda HaCohen Kook.

In 1997, a number of other rabbis, led by Rabbi Zvi Tau, retired together from the Merkaz Rabbi yeshiva and founded a competing yeshiva - Har Hamor yeshiva.

Since then he has headed it together with his twin brother, Rabbi Amiel Sternberg.

At the same time he also taught at Yeshiva Beit El, Yeshiva Or Etzion, Yeshiva Ataret Yerushalayim, Yeshiva Ma'ale Eliyahu and more.

Many of the leading rabbis today in the national religious community are among his students, including Rabbi Micha Halevi, Rabbi of Petach Tikva, Rabbi Haim Gantz, Rabbi Moshe Bleicher, Rabbi Ohad Tirosh, Rabbi Dani Isaac, Rabbi Hagi Londin and more.

Rabbi Sternberg previously expressed his position in quite a few public positions, such as supporting the Noam party.

At the same time, he rarely gave interviews to the media.

Recently, in a lesson he taught, he addressed the allegations against Rabbi Tao for allegedly sexually assaulting several women.

In the words, published in the Shabbat bulletin "Savi'i", he said that "it is incumbent upon us to find out as part of our great struggle with the whole general atmosphere. And we add another point to this, it did not start from today, not in connection with Rabbi Lezvi, in general, there is a distorted and polluted world that we are getting used to living in." .

Rabbi Sternberg went on to say that "Are the talmidim dangerous people? The words are empty and empty, a lie, it has always been a lie, the talmidim are holy people. Sometimes it happens, we are not capable of this, to live in the purity of thought, to live in truth, and not let the improper and polluted attitude pollute us. The world of Israel, a polluted world?! A lie and a lie."
