Vegan alternatives to classic Christmas markets are on the rise.

The DIY day and vegan Christmas market have been taking place in Aschaffenburg since 2017.

Aschaffenburg – On Sunday (December 4th) it was finally that time again.

The DYI day in Aschaffenburg could take place again - including a vegan Christmas market.

The organisers, the JUKUZ (youth and culture centre), describe the atmosphere there as a "colorful mixture of market, music, DIY, trying out, looking at and enjoying unusual products".

A special highlight for many is the integrated vegan Christmas market, organized by the Aschaffenburg ProVeg Association.

Numerous delicacies were offered to the visitors.

Including a vegan bratwurst stand run by two ex-meat eaters.

Daniel Ulshöfer and Benjamin Bott are trained butchers - and have been vegans for several years.

Both of them now have other jobs.

"We don't want to proselytize," Bott clarified in an interview with the

.

You want to impress with taste.

They produced 1180 sausages for this year's vegan Christmas market.

They used around 30 kilos of saitan and 25 kilos of tofu for this.

The sausages also seemed to go down well with the visitors.

The two sold “800 Wörtscht im Brötle” in the six hours.

Three euros per sausage, the proceeds go to animal protection organizations.

At her stand there was also vegan cake and a speculoos drink, optionally with a shot.

Vegan sausages have also been available in the canteens of the universities in East Bavaria since the end of November.

At the University of Regensburg there are even more vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu.

In addition to the Christmas market, there were also various do-it-yourself stations.

In the open wood workshop, visitors could try out small woodworks, while pyrography and screen printing were on the agenda in the other workshop rooms.

Christmas handicrafts were also offered for children.

The foodsharing group invited to delicious food in the youth center.

Lots of "homemade" and "many upcycling ideas" were the motto here.
