“Gift from the Heart” campaign in Kaufbeuren: The FORUM pitched in this year

Waiting to be shipped: many “gifts from the heart” packages will find their way to beaming children's eyes this year.

For years, the FORUM has been supporting the “Gift from the Heart” campaign.

This year we paid Humedica a visit and helped with the sorting.

Colorfully wrapped packages, bulging shipping boxes and numerous helpers: the "gift from the heart" warehouse in Kaufbeuren is a Christmas workshop!

At least that is our conclusion, because this year FORUM editor Lena Hepting brought a few latecomer packages personally.

This brings the final score to 104 gifts from the heart!

But now for the beginning.

The FORUM has been a collection point for Humedica's popular campaign for many years.

From November we are looking for hard-working package packers who will pack hygiene items, stationery, toys, clothing and sweets in shoeboxes with stickers to make children in Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo and Romania happy.

The panels are also used to distribute parcels to needy families in Bavaria.

In addition, Christmas surprises for children in Ethiopia, Niger, Brazil, the Philippines and Zimbabwe are made possible with monetary donations.

Usually the FORUM help ends with the collection of the gifts.

Instead, this year we went to Kaufbeuren in the warehouses of gift with heart to help with the package control.

And yes: Every "gift from the heart" is checked for content.

A job that shouldn't normally be necessary, but is sorely needed.

"Gift from the Heart" campaign: Not every package meets the requirements

It turns out that hygiene items or stationery are often forgotten, only sweets are placed in the package or discarded toys are given away, some of which are broken and old.

Highlights were two packages that almost only contained candles and concrete decorations, gifts that looked more like a junk box at the flea market or contained far too many of the required products.

It is precisely these critical gifts that are readjusted manually, fortunately there are numerous material donations in Kaufbeuren with which the helpers, aka Christmas elves, can add a few gifts.

Most of the packages were still in order and could be waved through as they were.

Some package packers even went to the trouble of wrapping their contents individually, matching their color or adding things they had made themselves.

“Gift from the Heart” campaign: Christmas elves have a lot to do

The control ensures that each gift has roughly the same content and that there are no disappointed children on Christmas Eve, only beaming eyes!

Everything is also well structured on site.

There are separate packing stations for each age group, a system for checking and lots of cheerful Christmas elves from Humedica, who roam the aisles from time to time to refill donations at the stations.

Always with a smile and even in full Christmas dress including Christmas tree ball earrings.

"Gift from the Heart" campaign: Help is still needed

The "Christmas workshop" in Kaufbeuren is mainly supported by volunteers.

Anyone who can spend a little time in the first three weeks of December and can stand for a longer period of time can help with the control.
