Weather models point to the coldest winter in ten years.

Temperatures could drop significantly in the coming months.

Munich – December 1st is the meteorological beginning of winter.

The start of winter is frosty and could be accompanied by snow.

It is interesting how the weather will develop over the next few winter months.

According to a weather model, the winter of 2022/23 could be the coldest winter in ten years.

January looks dry and February rainy.

Winter forecast: are we facing the coldest winter in years?

The American and European weather models see a lot of winter surprise potential in December.

Winter has already arrived in northern and eastern Europe and it could soon be here in Germany too.

According to the calculations, it should remain quite mild and dry in the first days of December before the temperatures drop below freezing.

There is even talk of an impending “cold whip”.

"The winter air is now so close that there can be a sustained onset of winter in Germany during the first and at the latest in the second third of December," said

meteorologist Björn Alexander.

However, it remains to be seen whether it will snow at Christmas.

Because especially on the Christmas days, the models show a warm air phase.

Another weather expert also sees the snow situation at Christmas as uncertain.

Winter forecast 2023: Cold January and wet February

January could be promising for winter fans.

“Some of the experimental long-term forecasts continue to provide for a very wintry weather schedule.

If that were to happen, we would have a pretty cold to icy start to the new year,” says Alexander.

This means that we could expect permafrost during the day and even colder nights.

However, January is looking very dry, as the models are forecasting little precipitation.

However, as is always the case with the weather, long-term forecasts are uncertain.

Other models indicate milder calculations, as the weather expert himself says.

A weather model calculates a winter that is too dry and too warm.

Both models that Alexander describes point to a heavy rainfall in February.

Whether it will snow or rain remains to be seen.

If forecasts of a colder trend come true, it could even be the "coldest winter in over ten years," according to the expert.
