The two victims of the crash of a motorboat against the rocks of Isola delle Bisce, in the La Maddalena archipelago, which took place on Tuesday evening shortly after 6 pm, in which two other people were injured, have been identified.
The victims are Tommy Di Chello, 38, owner of a gardening business in Golfo Aranci, and Giacomo Botte from Naples.
The two injured are Carlo Nieddu, from Golfo Aranci and a man from Campania.
They are hospitalized in La Maddalena hospital, with multiple contusions, with serious wounds and in a state of shock.
According to an initial reconstruction of the accident made by the Coast Guard of La Maddalena, the four were on a Fisherman motorboat and were returning to Golfo Aranci or Porto Cervo after a fishing trip.
They proceeded from north to south and after passing the
island of Caprera crashed into a rock near the Isola delle bisce.
The impact was very violent, the four were thrown into the sea.
The two victims died instantly.
Two sport fishermen, including a soldier from the Guardia di Finanza of the Aeronaval Operations Department of the La Maddalena Section, who was off duty, were on board a dinghy nearby, heard the crash, and gave the alarm to the Harbor Master's Office and gave first aid.
They found the motorboat overturned, with one person on the boat and three in the water.
They took them on board and then with the arrival of the La Maddalena Coast Guard patrol boats, they transported the four to the port of La Maddalena, and from there by ambulance to the "Paolo Merlo" hospital.
Attempts to resuscitate Di Chello and Botte were useless and their deaths were confirmed at the hospital.
The Tempio Pausania public prosecutor's office seized the motorboat, which was recovered, and opened an investigation into the accident.
