The latest "Secondary School Profile" shows that in the 2022/23 school year, secondary schools in Hong Kong will reduce 46 classes in Form 1, Sha Tin, the hardest-hit area, will reduce 11 classes, and Yuen Long will reduce 6 classes.

In addition, there are 19 secondary schools in Hong Kong that only offer two classes in Secondary One this school year, and 11 of them are reduced to only two classes this school year.


Among the 387 Guanjin middle schools listed in the "2022 Secondary School Overview", 44 middle schools in the 22/23 school year have fewer classes in the first class than in the 21/22 school year, with a total of 46 classes reduced.

Shau ​​Kei Wan East Government Secondary School is one of the most severely reduced classes. The number of classes in Secondary 1 has been greatly reduced from 4 classes in the 21/22 school year to 2 classes, which may be affected by the school’s relocation plan.

Lung Cheung Government Secondary School opened two classes of Secondary One in the last school year. Due to the merger with Kowloon Industrial Secondary School, Secondary One was suspended this school year.

In addition, Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School, which only opened one class of Form 1 last year, has also suspended Form 1 classes this school year.

Comparing different districts, Sha Tin District has a net decrease of 11 classes of Form 1, and Yuen Long has a net decrease of 6 classes of Form 1, becoming the hardest hit area for class reduction. However, there are more schools in the two districts.

This year, there are 19 secondary schools with only two classes of Secondary One, and as many as 11 of them have reduced to two classes of Secondary One this school year, including Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School, which plans to relocate, and Ju Jinqiu Secondary School (Tuen Mun), Kowloon District St. Guild Shengjiang Secondary School, South District Caritas Chong Yuet Ming Secondary School.

Another 11 secondary schools have added Secondary One, including the Congregational College of the Church of Christ in China, which originally only offered senior high school courses. This academic year, it will start adding junior high school courses and open two classes of Secondary One.

In addition, many famous schools, such as Salesian English School, Hong Kong Island Minsheng College, and Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club Secondary School, adopted a "circular balanced class structure" and opened an additional class in Form 1 this year.
