The masks fall on public transport.

According to information from the Munich Merkur, the mask requirement in Bavaria will expire at the end of the week.

Munich – The first federal state in Germany abolishes the masks in local public transport.

On Tuesday morning, the Bavarian cabinet decided to let the current regulation expire on Friday, December 9th.

From December 10th, only the recommendation to wear a mask in Bavaria will apply.

Mask requirement in Bavaria expires: From Friday only a recommendation

Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) made the proposal, Prime Minister Markus Söder supported the project.

In the run-up, the Free Voters had also campaigned for the measures to be relaxed.

The mask requirement is no longer appropriate due to the current stable infection situation, according to government circles.

In Bavaria, the numbers have long been the lowest in all of Germany.

One is therefore guided by the example of Austria.

Personal responsibility will increase in the future.

A press conference is planned for Tuesday afternoon.

No mask requirement in Bavarian public transport - but it still applies to long-distance traffic

In addition to buses, trams, underground and S-Bahn trains, the regulation also applies to regional rail transport - for example on the Munich-Garmisch, Munich-Salzburg or Munich-Passau routes.

In the long-distance traffic of Deutsche Bahn, on the other hand, the federal regulation continues to apply, which even stipulates an obligation to wear an FFP2 mask until March.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) wants to stick to it.

The health ministers of the federal states could not agree on uniform rules in all federal states on Monday evening.
