The planned deforestation in the Brenner grove in Gmund has taken place.

Forest district manager Hans Feist kept an eye on it.

And local residents breathe a sigh of relief - albeit sadly.

Gmund - "It went relatively well, very different from last time." Even if a large number of cut trees put a lot of pressure on her Advent mood, Sabine Rader can after the logging campaign that took place a few days ago in the Brenner grove breathe first.

As announced, entrepreneur Jupp Brenner had a number of trees removed in his forest between Dr.-Kober- and Deganoweg - for safety reasons, as it had been said beforehand, because public footpaths lead through the area, which is characterized by numerous tree species.

Deforestation in the Brenner grove: feared renewed clear-cutting did not materialize

The planned action had caused a lot of fuss in advance and an on-site meeting with forest district manager Hans Feist.

Local residents feared that after a rather insensitively carried out first action in the spring, there could be another "deforestation".

Upon request, a special protection status was even discussed in the building committee, but ultimately rejected.

Workers were busy last Friday and Saturday (December 2nd and 3rd).

Hans Feist was involved on site.

"We have again marked the trees to be felled," reports the district manager.

Apparently, this was necessary because, in advance, significantly more trees were marked with pink than originally intended.

A total of between 30 and 45 trees were felled, reports Feist, who speaks of a "successful, presentable and quite tolerable measure".

It is of course allowed for citizens to get involved in advance, says Feist with a view to the public protest, but as a rule it is easy to manage private forests properly.

Nevertheless, he considered the on-site visit to be useful.

"How would it have turned out if we hadn't gotten involved?" Fritz Joachim from Gmund raises this question in view of the illegally marked trees.

He still regrets the fellings that have now been completed.
