In response to Seoul's military provocations, the General Staff of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) today issued an emergency combat readiness order and an urgent directive to strengthen surveillance for military units at all levels, including front-line artillery units.
"Today the enemy fired artillery shells from multiple rocket launchers and howitzers in the front-line areas," the North Korean Central News Agency quoted a spokesman for the agency as saying in a statement, adding: "An order has been issued to the artillery units in the front-lines to fire live shells into the sea." To issue a stern warning.
The spokesman stressed the need for South Korea to stop its military provocations immediately.
Pyongyang has warned on more than one occasion that it will respond decisively and overwhelmingly to the provocative military moves of the United States and South Korea on the Korean Peninsula, while Washington and Seoul insist on conducting repeated military exercises in the region.
