Eye-catching bank staff, exposing the "fake police" scam.

A 26-year-old woman was suspected of posing as a "public security officer in Hong Kong" and planned to accompany the 76-year-old target man to the bank to withdraw a huge sum of 4 million yuan. However, the bank staff felt suspicious and reported the case. The police arrested the woman after investigation.

As for the 76-year-old Weng, there was no monetary loss.

The police said that they received a report from a bank employee on December 5 that a 76-year-old man surnamed Ho and a 26-year-old woman surnamed Lin asked to withdraw about 4 million yuan in cash in a bank in Yau Ma Tei. After feeling suspicious, he called the police for help.

After in-depth investigation, the police found that the man had received a call from a mainland law enforcement officer claiming to be a public security officer on December 1, accusing him of committing a criminal offense in the mainland and asking the man to transfer about 2 million yuan to a designated bank account to assist in the investigation .

Since the man was not familiar with online banking affairs, the self-proclaimed mainland law enforcement officer claimed that he could arrange for people in Hong Kong to come to the man's residence to provide assistance.

A 26-year-old woman arrived at the informant's residence in Yau Ma Tei on the same day. She claimed to be a law enforcement officer. The man then handed over the online bank account number and password to the woman.

The woman asked the man to go to the bank with her to withdraw cash on December 5, but failed in the end.

The police then arrested the 26-year-old local woman on suspicion of "obtaining property by deception". She is currently being detained for investigation.

The police operation is still ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out.

The case was handed over to the Yau Tsim District Criminal Investigation Team for further follow-up.
