Görtz has to close "several branches": "We are forced to terminate leases"

Especially after the corona virus and since the energy crisis, the company has been in the red.

“Under the current framework conditions, the risks for our business model have increased immensely.

After checking the profitability of the individual locations and intensive discussions with the landlords, Görtz felt compelled to terminate rental contracts," said the spokesman.

That means correctly: Görtz is closing several branches.

The company is not alone in this: Primark is also currently closing many branches.

The company does not want to say how many and which Görtz locations are affected.

However, there is talk of "several branches" where the leases for the locations were terminated at the end of November.

At the end of February it's over there.

Because then the notice period ends, the company spokesman continued.

Götz closures: These branches in Cologne will be closed at the end of February 2023

In Cologne alone, three of the four locations will now be closed.

The branches in Ehrenstraße, in Cologne Central Station and in the Rhein-Center are affected.

The location on Hohe Strasse was closed at the end of September.

So only the Görtz store on Zeppelinstraße remains in Cologne – at least for now.

  • Görtz branch at Ehrenstraße 5-7

  • Görtz branch at Trankgasse 11 (Cologne Central Station)

  • Görtz branch on Aachener Str. 1253 (Rhein-Center)

  • The Görtz branch at Hohe Straße 101 closed on September 30, 2022

Further closures at Görtz possible: "Talks are still ongoing"

Because future Görtz closures are still possible.

A branch will also be closed in Hamburg.

"Görtz is doing everything in his power to keep as many branches as possible in the course of the renovation.

Ultimately, however, each branch must be profitable.

Further talks with the landlords will show whether there are any further terminations in addition to the terminations that took place at the end of November, ”said the company spokesman.

For many other employees, the end is threatened.

"This is a bitter decision for the management, but there was no way around it," it continues.

It is not known where and which branches could be affected.

This is also due to the fact that the company is currently still in negotiations with the landlords of the Görtz branches.

“These talks are still ongoing.

For this reason too, no definitive number can be given, since a lot is still in flux.”
