Today, the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs governorate launched an afforestation campaign by planting 1,000 forest saplings in the Asila al-Haraji site, east of al-Rastan city in the governorate’s countryside.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Director of Homs Agriculture, Engineer Younes Hamdan, explained that the afforestation campaign is launched today under the slogan (For a better climate, we plant trees) to plant an area of 10 hectares in the Asila site with 6,000 saplings of forest varieties that suit the climate of the region, indicating that the afforestation plan for the current year includes planting 112 hectares in 7 forested sites in different regions of the governorate.
In turn, the head of the forestry department in the directorate, Eng. Amer Shaaban, stated that the afforestation campaign was started after the rains, as the Asila site is located within the third stability area, and it will be replanted after being vandalized and trees uprooted by terrorist organizations, where 1,000 plants are planted today, pointing out He indicated that the nursery plan for the current year is to produce 529,000 seedlings ready for distribution, and 60,000 seedlings will be planted in all forestry sites, in addition to direct selling to those who wish at a price of 1,000 pounds per plant and distributing 5 plants for free to each rural family under the family card.
The teacher, Rabab Suleiman, and the student, Ruba Taymur Khan, from the Siddig Haj Kamal School, pointed out that the students' participation in the afforestation campaigns aims to restore the vegetation cover of the forests that were vandalized and stolen, to return to what it was, given its importance in improving the climate and soil.
