From Majdal Shams to Gedera, Avishag and Rani Levanon are plowing Israel through and through with the A7 social comic workshops.

Each workshop consists of five sessions, and brings together groups of amateur comic creators of different ages, to create both individual booklets and a shared group book.

Each of the workshops is guided by professional comedians who give master classes.

"The idea of the workshops was born in 2021, right between the corona closures," say the creators of the project, Avishag and Rani Levanon, comic artists, illustrators and animators known by the pen name "Glandon and Isabella".

"It started as a collaboration with the salon and the comic book library of Beit Ariela. Later, we also proposed the project to the lottery factory so that we could spread the workshops all over the country and to our delight they picked up the gauntlet."

The A7 workshops include five practical work sessions of creating social, political or personal comics, starting from the concept stage to execution - a booklet that includes approximately 16 pages in A7 size, which will be compiled, printed and distributed to the participants and the host local authority (participation in the workshops does not depend on age or experience) .

"We believe in pluralism and lack of selection," they add.

"Anyone who wants to create comics is invited to the workshops. It is a wonderful tool for expressing ideas, breaking boundaries and overcoming the language barrier. Our participants create diverse content - from personal stories about the family or the status of women in Arab society to superheroes, fairies and dreams."
