In Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic persists and signs his policy of a Christmas “
without dead trees
”.
Place Pey-Berlan, the recycled glass Christmas tree shaped by Arnaud Lapierre is taking up residence opposite the town hall for the second year.
While it will be inaugurated this Friday, December 9, the work of the artist designer continues to divide.
“
I preferred the real Christmas tree because I love nature, but I have to admit that this glass fir tree, well lit, looks magical
,” comments Jacqueline, 70 years old.
Jean-Luc, 63, is less lenient.
“
Pierre Hurmic is boring, like all green mayors.
The Christmas tree is a Christmas tree, not something made of scrap iron
”, is indignant the Bordelais nostalgic of the time when “
the stronghold of the right
” celebrated the Nativity “
with nativity scenes and large trees
”.
If he insists on the absence of "
magic
" of this tree, he nevertheless admits that he "
is not ugly
".

With his photographer's eye, Pierre-Jean Salles, 73, appreciates it.

I think well of it, because I didn't know the tree before.
What's nice about glass is that when it's illuminated, it reflects the whole place
”.
A reflection precisely echoing the ambition of its creator.
Arnaud Lapierre thought of the structure as "
an invitation to capture and contemplate the mirror effects that refract the lights on its environment
".

Bordeaux residents "
understand
" the mayor's policy
For or against, the Bordelais questioned recognize a "
logical
" decision with regard to Pierre Hurmic's ecological program.

I understand and at the same time, I'm not sure that this glass tree was the solution
", emphasizes Quentin, 22, "

to the Christmas spirit
".
On the side of the town hall, the desire for a “
festive, sober and united
” Christmas is assumed.
The 750 decorations that will illuminate the city from December 9 to January 2, i.e. a period reduced by energy sobriety, are made up of low-consumption LED diodes.
Choices that will allow the local authority to save 400 euros over the period.
As for the recycled glass tree, it is claimed in a press release as "
an artistic, sustainable and sober vision of the Christmas tree with a low carbon impact
".
