Today, the International Forum for the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage continued its activities, which are being held in Kazan, Russia, with the “Great Silk Road” symposium, with the participation of the Syrian delegation headed by the Minister of Culture, Dr. Labana Mashouh, and representatives of the Silk Road countries.

During her speech, Minister Mashouh stressed that the Silk Road linked the civilizations and cultures of peoples, and affected each of them in various aspects of cultural, material and immaterial life, and was embodied in architecture, inscriptions, customs, rituals, myths, beliefs and languages, which allowed for the existence of common denominators among the peoples of these countries, calling for focusing on these Al-Qasim, highlighting it, and working to revive the Silk Road for its cultural and economic importance.

For her part, the Director of the Intangible Heritage at the Ministry of Culture, Eng. Rola Aqili, praised Syria's role as a meeting place for the intangible human heritage on the Silk Road, which made it at the crossroads of the Silk and Incense Roads.

In an opening session of the conference held on Palmyra and the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe, attended by the Syrian delegation and a large number of international experts, Dr. Mashouh stressed Syria's keenness to restore the Arc de Triomphe to what it was, as it represents a symbol of the Syrian identity, and of its great importance to all civilizations.

The activities of the International Forum for the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage started yesterday in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, with the participation of Syria. The Kazan Forum continues until the ninth of this month, and includes seven conferences and a youth model for the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, in the presence of representatives of 56 countries.

The 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage is one of the most effective and widely recognized international activities developed under the auspices of UNESCO.
