District

– Hardly anyone would have said a bad word about Rainer Schweiger: Human, friendly, always in a good mood, that's how his private and political companions knew him.

The Weilheimer has now died at the age of 81.

Schweiger began his political career in 1976 when he was promoted to the Weilheim city council – and was subsequently re-elected.

It was not until 2011, after 35 years, that the popular CSU voice king resigned prematurely at the age of 70 for health reasons.

For the second longest term in the history of Weilheim's city council, Schweiger received, among other things, the city's rarely awarded gold coin.

"His calm and level-headed manner often brought calm and objectivity back into some heated debates and calmed people across all faction boundaries," said Mayor Markus Loth about Schweiger's farewell.

Socializing was an important point for Schweiger: “When doing political work, you sometimes have to go out for a beer together.

Because conversations around the beer table are just as important,”

Elected Vice District Administrator as a newcomer

Schweiger also left his mark on the district.

In 1996 he was elected to the district council for the first time - and promptly prevailed against SPD candidate Inge Hecht in a contest for the post of deputy district administrator.

He was Luipold Braun's deputy for twelve years and reliably filled the post without any ambitions for higher offices.

In 2014, Schweiger also stopped serving as a district councillor.

After that, the trained master blacksmith, who for a long time ran the bicycle shop of the same name, initially with motorcycles and later with lawnmowers, had more time for his family.

He was married to his second wife Karin for 37 years, he had three children and she brought two with him.

"We had a beautiful marriage, he was really popular everywhere," she says.

You could often meet the enthusiastic sportsman, who liked to play football, go cycling and skiing, out for a walk with his dachshund in Weilheim.

District Administrator: "Not just a party friend, but a real friend"

But after a stroke about a year ago, Schweiger couldn't get back on his feet.

Most recently, he was cared for in the community home, where he now died.

"He had such a friendly, winning manner. For me, he was not just a party friend, but a real friend," mourns Andrea Jochner-Weiss, who succeeded him in 2008 as Deputy District Administrator.

The funeral service

for Rainer Schweiger will take place on Friday, December 16, at 1 p.m. in the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Weilheim.

The funeral will follow in close family circle
