A truck caught fire on the A9 in northern Bavaria on Monday evening.

The extinguishing work was difficult.

Münchberg – An accident occurred on Monday evening, December 5th, on the A9 towards Berlin.

Between the Münchberg-Nord and Hof-West junctions in northern Bavaria, the driver of a parcel truck noticed that it had caught fire.

Parcel truck burns out completely on the A9: Extensive extinguishing work

According to the police report, by looking in the rear-view mirror, the driver noticed that the loading area of ​​his parcel truck was on fire.

He immediately parked the truck on the hard shoulder and got out of the driver's cab – fortunately uninjured.

Just a few moments later, the 40-ton truck and its load were completely engulfed in flames.

The fire brigade, which was called immediately, began the extensive extinguishing work, the police took care of the traffic.

The lane in the direction of Berlin had to be closed for about three hours, and long traffic jams formed at times.

In order to bring the flames under control, the emergency services of the Münchberg fire brigade had to climb onto the loading area with breathing masks to extinguish the remaining embers.

Parcel truck in full fire: Hear explosions - "Now Christmas presents are missing"

According to the police, there were also several explosions during the fire.

"There were probably Christmas presents on it at the time," explains Martin Schödel from the Münchberg fire department.

A spokesman for the traffic police inspectorate in Bavarian Hof also referred to the destroyed cargo: "Now the Christmas presents are definitely missing somewhere".

The first investigations by the police revealed that the fire was probably caused by a technical defect.

The officials estimate the damage at over 200,000 euros.
