Munich reduces the costs for parking permits for craftsmen and tradespeople.

The Greens and SPD have agreed on this.

Munich - The costs for parking permits for craftsmen and tradespeople will be halved.

From January 1st, the permit will only cost 360 euros a year - previously the costs were 720 euros.

Parking permits in Munich are becoming cheaper: income was significantly less than expected

According to the will of the town hall coalition, existing one-year licenses that have already been paid for are to be extended to two years.

A corresponding amendment will be made for the meeting of the district administration committee on December 20th.

It was only at the beginning of 2021 that the Munich city council raised the prices at the request of the Greens and SPD - on the assumption that this would bring 13 to 15 million euros in additional income, which should flow into the necessary expansion of local public transport, among other things.

However, the increase in fees has led to a significant drop in the number of tradesman parking permits applied for.

The forecast revenue was missed by far.

Parking permits in Munich are becoming cheaper: SPD boss says craftsmen contribute to prosperity

The Greens and SPD also state that the trades are suffering from the sharp rise in energy prices.

The town hall coalition is now reacting to this changed initial situation.

Anne Hübner, chairwoman of the SPD/Volt parliamentary group, says: “The trades provide us with fresh rolls, repair the washing machine or install the solar system.

The companies and tradespeople are extremely important to us - as citizens of this city and as employers who play a key role in Munich's prosperity.

We want to create better working conditions for them.

These include affordable parking permits and parking spaces that are reserved for trade and industry.

Of course, we also hope that the customers in Munich will benefit from this.”

Parking permits in Munich are becoming cheaper: the Greens boss says that significant relief is needed

And Mona Fuchs, Chairwoman of the Greens - Pink List parliamentary group, says: "A strong craft is important to supply the people of Munich, but also to meet the great challenges of the future, such as the construction of PV systems, the modernization of our Public transport infrastructure or energetic renovation.

If we want to come up with solutions to the great challenges of the future, we need those who also implement them: Munich's craftsmen and women are key players here.

We attach great importance to the fact that there are good working and development conditions for the skilled trades in Munich.

The massive energy price increases and the crisis-related cost increases in material purchasing require significant relief.

Therefore, we think it makes sense
