First pilot for the "smart prison" project:
yesterday the renovated Gilboa prison was presented, which is supposed to be the most advanced, technological and innovative of the prisons, with the help of special technological systems that were implemented in it during the last year.
As a reminder, in September 2021, four security prisoners who were sentenced to life imprisonment and two security detainees escaped from the Gilboa prison through a tunnel.
Four of them were captured in Israel about four days after the escape, and the remaining two were captured in Jenin on September 19.
Now the Shavas hope that that prison will be an example of innovation and safety.
Apart from the assimilation of technology, the Gilboa prison underwent a process in the past year to strengthen and thicken its infrastructure, and the works were based on the recommendations and the extensive experience accumulated in the field of construction and the underground in the IDF. As part of the project, extensive shielding works and the concrete of the cells were carried out, in cooperation with the construction division of the Ministry of Defense. The plan to strengthen And the thickening of the infrastructure is intended to increase the security of the facility and bring it up to the standards required by the Shevas.

As part of the project to implement a "smart prison", many technological systems were integrated into the prison.
Among other things, a unified control center (advanced control center) was implemented - a multidimensional defense system that protects the airspace and the peripheral space, and also provides innovative defensive cover for the underground route. Alongside this, digital systems for counting prisoners and digital report logs were implemented, after For years, the Shevas wrote in diaries manually and manual counts were carried out.
The "smart prison" also includes biometric systems for identifying prisoners, and advanced warning systems.
According to Shavas, digitization in the organization entails capabilities that will lead to decision-making being able to rely on broad, accessible and reliable databases.
MM Head of the Logistic Support Division, Sub-Gonder Yaki Zeno: "The smart prison has the goal of changing and upgrading the working environment of the guards and the entire staff.
We are moving from a complex work world to a simple and easy one."
