After the fatal attack on two schoolgirls in Illerkirchberg near Ulm, Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) called for prudence.
"This event must not be a reason or a justification for hate and hate speech," said Strobl on Tuesday when he visited the crime scene.
“This crime must be clarified with all consequences.
Illerkirchberg - The perpetrator must be punished with all consequences.
That's what will happen," he said.
A 27-year-old man - an asylum seeker from Eritrea - is said to have attacked two girls on their way to school on Monday and seriously injured them - presumably with a knife.
One of the victims, a 14-year-old girl, later died at the hospital.
Several AfD politicians responded on Monday that an asylum seeker was considered a suspect.
