The man accused of killing five people in a mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs last month has been indicted on 305 counts, including aggravated murder, aggravated attempted murder, assault and hate crimes. that cause bodily injury.

The aggravated manslaughter charges were filed under two different theories, murder after deliberation and with intent, and murder by extreme indifference.
Both types of murder charges carry possible prison sentences of life without parole, Allen noted.
“If someone is convicted of these crimes, they will spend the rest of their life in prison never to breathe the fresh air again,” the district attorney said.

“Obviously, when you file 305 counts in a case, you are telling the public, the community, this state and this nation that we are taking this case in the most serious way, which means we are going to appeal to the maximum extent. of the law,” Allen said.
“We have also filed bias charges, which means we believe there is sufficient evidence to support the hate crime charge.”

“We will not tolerate actions against members of the community based on their sexual identity,” added the district attorney.
“Members of that community have been harassed, intimidated and abused for far too long.

Allen said that at the conclusion of the preliminary hearing, scheduled for February 22, his office would ask the judge to link the person suspected of being responsible for the shooting to the charges, so that they continue without bond in the future.
