Planning for the “Museumsquartier” area at Bahnhofstraße 1, 1a, 3 and 3a in Starnberg is progressing.

Two prizewinners emerged from an architectural competition and are now developing their designs further.

A jury will then determine a winner.

Starnberg - It is an extremely sensitive area of Starnberg.

On the one side the city center with Villa Bayerlein, Bayerischer Hof and See station, on the other side the beginning of villa development and above all the Starnberger See Museum.

In between, as a kind of hinge, are the properties at Bahnhofstraße 1, 1a, 3 and 3a, which have led an architectural shadowy existence for decades - regardless of whether with or without the "cradle of Starnberg", those huge, magenta-colored stairs.

A first milestone in the planning of the area has now been reached.

As the owner, the Starnberg project developer Ehrlich and Klein, reports, the architectural competition ended at the end of November.

Ehrlicht and Klein had invited five teams of architects and landscape architects.

The procedure was coordinated with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects.

The participants submitted their work anonymously.

The jury has now unanimously decided on two prize winners, according to the company: "Beer Bembé Dellinger Architects", who designed the new town hall in Berg, with "Burkhardt, Engelmayer, Mendel Landscape Architects" - and "delaossa Architects" with "mahl gebhard concepts landscape architects”.

For example, the Munich office is responsible for an extravagant apartment building on Schönbichlstrasse in Herrsching.

The jury included Mayor Patrick Janik and City Architect Stephan Weinl.

Details are not known, but in their press release, Ehrlich and Klein raved: "According to the assessment of the jury, the award winners fit very well into the urban fabric and particularly appreciate the proximity to the museum." Both designs would be "very interesting approaches to the Overcoming the Challenges”.

These should now be worked out further and presented to the jury again in order to be able to determine a winner.

"Once this process is complete, all concepts will be presented to the building committee and the public," promises Ehrlich and Klein.

Project developers and jury members enthusiastic about designs

Michael Ehrlich, founder and co-owner of the project developer, had already outlined his ideas for a development in the summer: For example, he could imagine a staircase that begins on Bahnhofstrasse and ends in a path that is elevated and offers an unobstructed view of the lake the new buildings leading to the museum.

In addition to apartments, commercial areas are also to be built in the museum district.

The city last emphasized the importance of the area in July.

One template stated: "The connection of the museum property to the city center and to the lake shore must be guaranteed in addition to the perceptibility of the museum as a public place from all directions (...) Thus the new development will have a special connecting and mediating function in the future to fulfil.”
