These few words - giving security guarantees to Russia - were taken up with relish by Russian propaganda.
But they made France's eastern allies jump, as well as Ukraine.
On his Twitter account, former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves posted three letters to say what he thought of the presidential words:

, that is to say, in essence, “damn shit”.
Same anger in kyiv, where Ukrainian leaders are torn between disbelief and resentment towards France.
“Instead of Nuremberg, signing an agreement with Russia and shaking hands?
Ukrainian blood on Putin's hands won't hamper business as usual?”
