In the aftermath of strikes that Moscow attributed to kyiv, Russia says a drone attacked an airfield located in the Russian region of Kursk, 120 km from the border with Ukraine.
Due to a “drone attack in the Kursk airfield area, an oil storage tank caught fire.
There are no casualties,” Governor Roman Starovoyt said on his Telegram channel.
“The fire is being located.
All special services are working on site,” he wrote.
Only one drone would have been used.
As in a dozen airports in southern Russia, restrictions are in force because of the war: no civilian aircraft have landed or taken off from Kursk airport since February 24.
"Decommissioning Russian long-range aircraft"
On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian forces of having entered the territory by attacking the military airfields of Diagilevo, in the Ryazan region, and Enguels in the Saratov region, at least 500 km from border, using Soviet-made drones.
The Russian air force, using its air defenses, would have shot them down at low altitude, their cruising level.
During the attack, three military technical personnel were killed, four others were injured.
And two planes suffered minor damage.
Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for these attempts, intended, according to Moscow, to “disable Russian long-range planes”, used for the strikes which have targeted numerous energy infrastructures on Ukrainian territory in recent weeks.
In retaliation, Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine's military command system and its associated defense installations.
17 targets were hit, disrupting the transfer of troops by rail.
