Japanese officials hope Hong Kong will not tighten import restrictions after Fukushima sewage discharge

The delegation introduced the latest measures of Hong Kong's "0+3" entry to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, International Coordinator Hiraoka, and welcomed Japanese people to visit Hong Kong's new landmarks such as the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the M+ Museum.

Narutoshi Hiraoka also said that he looks forward to cooperating with Hong Kong to revive two-way tourism exchanges.

The delegation also visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and met with Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tetsuro Nomura.

Tetsuro Nomura said that Hong Kong is one of the important export destinations of Japanese food, and he hopes that Hong Kong will lift the import restrictions on Japanese food as soon as possible.

He mentioned that after the discharge of wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in the future, he hoped that Hong Kong would not further tighten import controls.

The delegation hopes that the Japanese will resume tourism and exhibitions in Hong Kong

In recent years, the number of Japanese companies participating in exhibitions in Hong Kong has decreased, and the delegation also reported to Tetsuro Nomura that they hope that Japanese companies will return to Hong Kong after the relaxation of entry restrictions in Hong Kong to participate in Hong Kong Food Expo and Hong Kong International Jewelry Show.

Afterwards, the delegation also met with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Toshisuke Takei and Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Fusae Ota respectively. Both of them talked about the discharge of Fukushima nuclear wastewater and the control of Fukushima food imports.

The delegation put forward three conditions. First, China and Japan should maintain friendship to promote the development of food trade between the two places. Second, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s assessment of the incident has been internationally affirmed, and Chinese experts are positive and have no objection to the assessment. The third is the need to properly address public concerns about wastewater treatment.

The delegation also told Takei Shunsuke that after the implementation of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" and the improvement of the electoral system, Hong Kong's economic and business environment has become more stable.
