"Siberian cold high": permafrost and lots of snow - winter in Bavaria is picking up speed

December is getting colder – and whiter!
A lot of snow is to be expected in the coming weeks – sometimes even down to the lower elevations.
Munich – On Monday, December 5, photos of snow in Germany were already being collected on Twitter.
A snowy Aachen can be seen, another user posted a photo of snow in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Apart from the higher mountain areas, there is not much of the white shine to be seen in Bavaria - even if snow fell in many places over the weekend.
However, current forecasts are likely to change in the coming days and weeks.

Based on various weather patterns, weather expert Jung explains that it gets really cold in December and that winter is picking up speed.
Around the third Advent there could be temperatures of minus ten to minus twelve degrees in Bavaria, especially around the state capital Munich the weather map is painted frosty purple.
But it's also getting cold in the direction of Nuremberg in the north of the Free State, where the dominant color is dark blue - it stands for minus five to minus ten degrees.
With regard to snow, the weather models do not quite agree - it is considered certain that it will snow, but it is not yet clear how much snow will remain and where it will be.
According to the latest European weather pattern, however, there is "mainly in the east and south-east ten to 15, sometimes 20 centimeters of snow on the third Sunday of Advent," explains Jung.
