Human Rights Watch warned in a statement that the electoral reform presented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is "regressive" for Mexico and urged federal deputies not to endorse this initiative.
In an interview with CNN, Tamara Taraciuk Broner, acting director for the Americas at Human Rights Watch, assured that the Executive's proposal "puts in check the right to vote in free and fair elections."
López Obrador has said that the objective of his reform is to reduce the costs of the electoral bodies and guarantee fair elections and within the framework of the law.
