The Nikolai Foundation takes care of needy villagers again.

Karl Hollweck is the new spokesman for the Brotherhood.

Dorfen

– Families in need will again receive a special gift from the city this year: the Nikolai Foundation is distributing 17,000 euros in Christmas allowance to recipients of social assistance.

The more than 600-year-old foundation is intended to be charitable and help villagers who are in need through no fault of their own.

This makes it an important pillar in the city's social network.

The assembly of the Nikl brothers traditionally meets on the name day of their patron – however, the meeting on St. Nicholas Day was canceled for two years due to the pandemic.

Adults will receive between 25 and 30 euros and children between 75 and 90 euros from the budget.

Mayor Heinz Grundner expects an increasing number of service recipients due to higher energy costs and increased food prices.

"It depends on how many people sign up.

And so we have a certain juggling crowd,” he said at the meeting in the town hall boardroom.

The Nikolai Foundation also bears material expenses for the Dorfener Tafel, grants educational grants for children and young people of low-income parents or supports institutions that work socially and charitably for and in Dorfen.

Treasurer Maria Bauer confirmed that there had been "no significant changes" in the financial situation and development of the foundation.

It continues to stand on a more than solid financial basis.

The foundation's balance sheet volume was 4.76 million euros, its equity just under 4.75 million euros.

The cash is just under 659,000 euros.

The assets are real estate and real estate, but above all the Nikolai Foundation Forest.

A large part of the income comes from the management of the Niklholz leased to the municipal utility.

21,400 euros were earned this year.

When it comes to asset management, the foundation no longer only relies on the forest, but also on property and real estate values.

37,000 euros in income comes in through rental and leasehold income.

Stadtwerke Managing Director Klaus Steiner reported that 30 percent of the biomass comes from Niklholz.

"We have made ourselves too dependent on Russia." That's why domestic energy and a climate-neutral supply are so important: "The interest in environmentally friendly electricity is huge."

The forest is still in good condition, but in the future one should not rely exclusively on spruce, explained district forester Walter Zwirglmaier.

That is why the foundation's own forest is being reforested with Douglas firs and chestnuts.

"We need mixed forest - with the extreme changes, we don't know where the journey is going.

But we have hope that some tree species will survive and the forest will be preserved.”

Fraternity spokesman Georg Brennauer resigned: "Now younger people should do it," he explained.

His successor is the long-serving deputy, Karl Hollweck, and Robert Gerbl was elected deputy brotherhood spokesman.

Two candidates submitted an application this year to be entered in the fraternity list: City pastor Stephan Matula as foundation chaplain and city councilor Josef Jung, the new foundation officer, both of whom were among the participants in the meeting due to their office.

"The closer the connection, the better," said Grundner.

Anyone wishing to be accepted into the twelve-strong fraternity must apply in person at the fraternity meeting.

Over 60 candidates are on the waiting list.

Only when a Nikl brother dies or resigns does a candidate move up.
