The German police arrested dozens of far-right activists who planned to attack the Bundestag building in Berlin and carry out an anti-democratic coup attempt.

The far-right activists were arrested in an extensive operation conducted in 12 district states across Germany.

Among the detainees are former military personnel.

The underground terrorist group belonged to the "Reich Citizens" movement, an extreme right-wing movement that opposes the democratic order in Germany and renewing the monarchical regime in the country.

25 people were arrested throughout Germany as part of the police operation, in which 3,000 police officers took part.

The members of the group carried out weapons training in preparation for the planned coup attempt.

Among other things, the members of the group planned to carry out attacks against essential infrastructures throughout Germany, including electricity supply, in order to create an atmosphere of general anarchy that would allow the planned coup to take place.

Because of the membership in the organization of former military personnel, from the Bundeswehr and the East German People's Army, the group was considered particularly dangerous and required the participation of counter-terrorism units in the arrest operation.

A central figure in the organization was a descendant of a princely family from the state of Thuringia, Heinrich Reuss, nicknamed "the prince".

Royce, 71, has been active for years in a campaign to delegitimize the German Republic, which he says is still controlled by the Allies.

According to the lawsuit, the "prince" contacted officials in Russia with the aim of negotiating the new order in the country, as soon as the coup is successful.

She helped him with the Russian citizen issue.

"However, according to the findings of the investigation, there is no evidence that the people the suspect approached responded positively to the request."

Among those suspected of belonging to the group is a sitting judge from Berlin, who served until about a year ago as a member of the Bongstag on behalf of the sovereign right party "Alternative to Germany".

Along with the arrests in Germany, the prosecutors said that one person was arrested in the Austrian town of Kitzbühel and another person in the Italian Perugia.

According to the lawsuit, "the suspects held a series of conspiracy theories of the 'Citizens of the Reich' and the QAnon theory."

According to them, the members of the group believed that Germany was run by a "deep state", similar to the unfounded claims made by former US President Trump.

All the detainees will be brought to a hearing today before a judge to decide on the extension of their detention.
