The National Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Estepona (Málaga, 71,925 inhabitants) as the alleged perpetrator of the death of his 61-year-old mother, in an apartment located in the Cancelada neighborhood of the Malaga municipality.
The young man had been in the house for a month, owned by a friend, where he had traveled from the Netherlands to overcome "a bad streak", according to sources of the investigation.
The victim had arrived on the Costa del Sol this Monday, also from Dutch lands, to visit his son after being notified that he was displaying violent behavior.
The woman's body was found on Tuesday with "multiple signs of violence."
The arrested man, who was located at dawn walking barefoot on the highway, is now awaiting psychiatric evaluation.
The man now detained by the National Police arrived in Spain a month ago.
He was then welcomed by a friend who lives in the Cancelada neighborhood, a residential area located to the west of Estepona very close to San Pedro Alcántara (in the municipality of Marbella).
The man was going through a rough patch and the girl wanted to help him, until, last week, the young man's violent behavior forced her to leave her own home and seek accommodation in a hotel with her partner.
She then asked for help from the mother of her friend, who was informed that the boy was having "strange and violent" behavior.
The 61-year-old woman flew to the Costa del Sol to meet her relative.
She was picked up at the airport by the woman she had called him and her boyfriend, who took her to the apartment in Estepona.
Her mother then asked to be alone with her son, and the two other people left the place and decided to spend the night.
Hours later, a neighbor told them that the door to his apartment was open.
When they went to check it, they entered the building and found the body.
"They found the interior scrambled and the room of the roommate ajar, with furniture behind the door that made access difficult," they say from the National Police, which emphasizes that, immediately afterwards, the couple saw the feet of a person between the different clothes thrown on the floor.
They then notified the emergency services and several police patrols went to the area.
They found the body of the woman with signs of violence.
"She had multiple blows and marks in her neck area," police sources say.
That same Tuesday, around 7:30 in the morning, a dozen people called the 112 Andalucía Emergency service to report that there was a person walking barefoot along the A-7 motorway near Estepona and near the Benahavís exit. .
Some drivers reported that he gave the sensation of walking under the influence of some drug and others assured that he looked like he wanted to be run over.
Agents of the National Police and the Local Police of Estepona went to the place together with the health services.
The young man was treated and taken in an ambulance to the Costa del Sol Hospital and, later, the police confirmed that he matched the description of the alleged perpetrator of the woman's death in Cancelada.
He was then arrested and is now pending psychiatric evaluation.
