Algeria has called for the reform of the United Nations Security Council, and an end to the historical injustice that has befallen the African continent for 80 years.
This came in the words of the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, in his speech during the opening of the ninth high-level meeting on peace and security in Africa held in the city of Oran, according to a statement of the ministry carried by the APS today.
Lamamra said, "We firmly believe that Africa, which has long called for the reform of the United Nations Security Council to put an end to the historical injustice that has been imposed on it for nearly eight decades, has the right to raise its case again and again, while emphasizing the urgent need for a comprehensive participatory pluralistic system." and balanced to face global challenges in an effective and effective way,” pointing out that the African continent, which has long established respect for international law and non-alignment as basic references for its diplomatic work, has the will, ability, and wisdom to make a positive contribution towards improving international relations.
Lamamra added, "Unifying Africa's voice within the Security Council is an integral part of the Africa project that we want."
It is noteworthy that the meeting brought together members of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union and the current African members of the United Nations Security Council (Kenya, Gabon, Ghana, and outgoing), as well as senior officials from the African Union Commission and the United Nations Secretariat.
