The worsening of relations between the Minister of National Security designated as the Police Commissioner • Despite Shabtai's statement not to make appointments - this coming Thursday the police intend to hold a rank awarding ceremony • "I am being presented with fait accompli"

Another deterioration in the relationship between Itamar Ben Gabir and the Police Commissioner:

"Israel Hayom" learned today (Wednesday) that the designated Minister of National Security is demanding from the legal advisor to the government to order the detention of all appointments in the police.

In a stern letter he sent to the legal adviser to the government, Gali Beharve-Miara, Ben Gvir claims that the commissioner and the minister of internal security are carrying out "a secret appointment of senior police officers on the eve of the new government's entry".

In the letter, the contents of which reached Israel Hayom, Ben Gvir claims that his appeal comes "following the very problematic conduct that is taking place these days in the Ministry of Internal Security, when there is an attempt to carry out kidnappings" and to present the designated Minister of National Security with fait accompli.

"Problematic conduct".

According to him, "this conduct is contrary to the commissioner's previous statement in which he made it clear that at this time, on the eve of an elected minister entering the ministry, it would not be correct to make changes, including the appointment of senior police officers."

"Da Aka" he adds "later it became known that despite the statement as mentioned above, this coming Thursday the outgoing Minister of Internal Security and the Commissioner intend to hold a rank awarding ceremony and present the appointed minister with fait accompli."

"change of position"

In his letter, Ben Gvir points out a report in the "Haaretz" newspaper, according to which the commissioner made another coup in recent weeks in the form of appointing the police officer, Shahar Mehsumi, to the commander of the Jerusalem police station.

"According to information I received, in the past the outgoing Minister of Internal Security refused to appoint the officer," claims Ben Gvir in his letter. For the third hijacker in number, in the form of the commissioner's attempt to hold a discussion on police policy for 2023!

An abductor who was only prevented after this became known to me."

"In other words," writes Ben Gabir, "the commissioner allegedly tried to hold a policy discussion, political progress, in the ninetieth minute, and just before the appointment of a minister in the ministry in charge of him."

Thousands of decisions a year.

It should be noted that every year thousands of decisions are made in the police regarding the appointment of officers to various positions.

However, according to the police order, the authority to make appointments for the positions designated for the ranks of deputy superintendent and above rests with the Minister of Internal Security, and the appointment process continues even these days.

Ben Gvir and the commissioner talked to each other a few days ago. According to a senior police officer during their conversation, the only appointment left on the commissioner's table revolved around the appointment of Chief of Staff Roi Waldman, the commissioner's assistant to the commander of the Lakish area.

The senior officer added that the commissioner agreed to the request and stopped the discussion on the appointment, however other appointments that were already placed with the minister were signed by him.

"What was in the hands of the commissioner includes that designated conference that we respected and arrested," said the senior officer.
