In 2022, voluntary special payments into the statutory pension will be cheaper than in 2023. Many people in Germany are still taking the opportunity and paying more pension contributions.

Berlin – This year it is particularly cheap to top up your future pension with special payments.

Numerous people in Germany have also made use of this to date.

The income from these voluntary contributions exceeded the threshold of 600 million euros from January to October, as reported by the

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)

, citing the German pension insurance.

In the same period last year, these revenues amounted to around 480 million euros and were therefore much lower.

According to the FAZ

, the sum was

estimated as high at the time, since the amounts had been lower in previous years.

Five years earlier, the sum totaled just 86 million euros.

Special payments: Pension points 2022 particularly cheap

There are several reasons for the great popularity of voluntary special payments in the statutory pension this year.

Because: This year, the pension points that you can buy with the special payments are still significantly cheaper.

In the coming year, the price for a pension point will increase by around eleven percent, and the special payment will increase accordingly.

The purchase price for pension points changes every year, as these are calculated according to the respective German average wage.

Due to the weak wage development in recent years, the price for a pension point has also fallen.

While you still had to pay 7726.63 euros for a point in 2021, it will only cost 7235.59 euros in 2022, i.e. almost 500 euros less.

In 2023 it will be more expensive again: then the price will rise to around 8024 euros.

In addition, rampant inflation and volatile stock markets make it more attractive for savers to invest additional money in the state pension.

Not all people can buy retirement points

The purchase of pension points is actually primarily intended for people who retire earlier and therefore want to collect more points.

Anyone who wants to work up to the standard retirement age can also make a deposit.

This can also be worthwhile for voluntary contributors such as the self-employed.

Anyone who is at least 50 years old and can show that they have at least 35 insurance years in the pension insurance system by the time they plan to retire can contribute – childcare and school periods included.
