The government announced the details of the "Caring Teams in 18 Districts". It will be tried out in Tsuen Wan and the Southern District early next year. Those interested in organizing the teams will have to go through two rounds of selection. They must love the country and Hong Kong, and support and cooperate with government leaders.

Chen Wanchen, chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council and a member of the Democratic Party, said on a radio program today (7th) that he would actively consider applying for the hosting of the care team. He believes that he has served the area for many years and meets the conditions of patriotism and love for Hong Kong. Some young people have expressed their willingness to serve as Care team volunteers.

Chen Wanchen believes that as long as he is willing to serve the public, he has already demonstrated the characteristics of patriotism and love for Hong Kong. He has served as a district councilor for many years and has been serving the public. He believes that he meets the conditions of loving the country and Hong Kong.

He believes that the government's practice of dividing the care team communities by District Council constituencies is appropriate, and he also pointed out that if the communities located in the same housing estate are undertaken by the same organization, there will be a synergy effect and the effect will be more ideal.

He estimates that there are only 8 to 12 members in each caring team, which is not enough to cope with the work. The caring team still needs to recruit volunteers and conduct larger activities such as home visits.

He mentioned that some organizations may encounter difficulties in finding young people to serve as volunteers, but some young people have expressed their willingness to serve the community as volunteers.

The "Policy Address" mentioned the establishment of "District Service and Caring Teams" (Care Teams). The 18 districts in Hong Kong will be divided into different communities, and regional organizations and groups will be recruited to become the "Care Teams" of the communities.

The government proposes that the two-year subsidy for each care team is 800,000 to 1.2 million yuan. Chen Wanchen said that the amount is not high, and hopes that the government will explain whether the subsidy includes salary, materials and basic equipment.

As for some councilors’ suggestion to set a sponsorship ceiling to avoid uneven resources among districts, Chen Wanchen thinks that it is unnecessary, the more sponsorship amount the better, the caring teams of each district are not in competition, the most important thing is to bring better services to the citizens.
