DOG 2022: The market rises, Honda leaps

2022-12-07T07:39:32.353Z

Honda's two-wheeled division is wrapping up a successful year in which it once again led the motorcycle market and is expected to end the year with 4,000 vehicles, mainly thanks to a 41% jump in large scooter deliveries. In the coming year, it will launch a variety of new tools, among them the new Hornet 750, which will be equipped with a particularly tempting price tag. Photographs: manufacturer

Meir, a Honda importer, held a press conference this morning in which it summed up the year 2022 in the two-wheeled market, and presented its plans for the coming year, which also include a wider electric activity, through the "MEU" subsidiary, which includes smart transportation solutions for the city and successful activity with the NIU electric scooters.

In the past year, the corona virus, the crisis in chips and the problems of logistics and shipping also plagued the two-wheeled industry, but the company actually enjoyed growth in demand and sales, partly thanks to the growing traffic loads and the fact that the two-wheeled market is an available transportation solution in the absence of efficient public transportation.

The importer estimates that the year will end with approximately 21,500 deliveries in the two-wheeled industry, which is a slight increase compared to last year and another record year, and with a 65% market share for scooters and 35% for motorcycles.

Sun Yang continued to lead the two-wheeled industry this year with 4,777 deliveries and an increase of 13% (January-October data), with the second brand in the market being Honda which delivered 3,582 vehicles (36.1%+) followed by Yamaha which delivered 3,064 vehicles (11.7%-), Kimco with 1,827 tools (-33.1%) and KTM which closes the opening five with 847 tools (-15%).

By the end of the year, Honda estimates that they will have crossed the 4,000 mark.

As can be seen from the data, Honda's surge is significant against the background of the market's outperformance.

Divided by segment, Honda once again led motorcycle sales in Israel with 1,112 deliveries and an increase in its market share from 16.5% to 18%.

Yamaha in second place delivered 1041 tools and promoted KTM which delivered 847 tools, Kawasaki with 724 tools and BMW with 293 tools.

In total, about 6,214 tools were delivered during the aforementioned period.

In the scooter division, Honda registered a dramatic growth in sales and a market share that jumped from 5% to 18% of the market and delivery of 2,470 scooters that placed it in second and respectable place after Sun Yang which delivered 4,777 vehicles.

Yamaha delivered 2,023 scooters and was ahead of Kimco which dropped to fourth place with only 1,827 scooters, due to a significant lack of tools.

Piaggio closes the opening five with 583 vehicles and a total of 11,924 scooters were delivered in Israel by the end of October.

Meir also recognizes the penetration of electric two-wheeled vehicles into the market, and the EICMA exhibition last month in Milan made it clear to everyone where the market is headed with lots of new brands from the East that threaten to conquer this industry in the future as well.

While in Europe 12% of the total sales of the two-wheeler has already been occupied by the electric tools, in Israel it is still a negligible figure of 2% of the total sales.

'Meir' activity in the electric market for the time being is carried out through the subsidiary company 'MEU' which markets the NIU models from China, and they dominated this category this year with 117 deliveries and were ahead of Blitz which delivered 71 vehicles, Silence with 41 vehicles and Gogoro scooters launched very recently by Metro Motor , and so far have been satisfied with only 26 deliveries.

ZERO motorcycles are still unable to rise and settle for only 24 deliveries.

In total, about 385 dishes were delivered throughout the electrical market and most of them were directed to delivery companies in the food industry.

The large scooter market is the fastest growing in Honda and in the past year it grew by 41% and amounted to 1,750 units, led by the XADV750 of which about 652 vehicles were sold.

The 125 cc category grew by 26% and amounted to 720 units, while the naked motorcycle category grew by 12% and amounted to 203 units.

A 13% decrease was recorded in the adventure category, which settled for 521 deliveries.

What awaits us in 2023?

As part of Honda's goal to become the leader of the two-wheeled industry in the coming years, the importer will launch several new tools at competitive prices in the coming year, among them the new Honda Hornet 750, which will join the naked motorcycle market this February with an impressive overall package and an even more tempting price tag set at NIS 54,500 only, a price very close to the Yamaha MT-07.

In April, the new Honda Transalp 750 will also arrive here, which will compete with hits such as the Yamaha Tenera and KTM 790 Adventure, and the Honda CL500, with which the company will join the scrambler market for the first time.

The price for these models has not yet been determined, but is expected to be competitive according to the importer, and all models will be offered with the possibility of A1 class licensing.

In the electric urban activity, the company hopes to increase the sales of NIU's electric scooters, while emphasizing the significant savings in their operation, and emphasis also on growth in the private market which still does not fondly embrace the electric scooters.

It can be concluded from this that most of the activity is currently concentrated in the business market, where there are also dedicated models.

These will also be joined by the manufacturer's electric bicycles and a collaboration with the "MIA Dynamics" company, which has developed a tiny 4-wheeled electric vehicle (EZ Raider style) which is expected to carry a significantly lower price tag of around NIS 20,000.

The electrical division will move during the next year to a new and more spacious location in the Sharona area of Tel Aviv.
