Large-scale raid against "Reichsbürger": Suspicious judge resigns from the civil division of the Berlin district court

The large-scale operation against a suspected "Reichsbürger" terror network was also directed against state officials. For an arrested judge and former AfD member of the Bundestag, this already has further consequences.

It was one of the largest raids in German history: the security authorities apparently struck a heavy blow against a right-wing extremist network.

The more than 3,000 officers involved arrested 25 people who are said to have planned the violent overthrow of the government.

Some of them were state employees: for example in the judiciary, in the armed forces and the police.

For example,

Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a former member of the AfD Bundestag,

who worked as a judge in Berlin, was arrested.

Malsack-Winkemann sat for the AfD in the Bundestag from 2017 to 2021 and returned to the Berlin judicial service after leaving parliament as a civil judge at the regional court - against the will of the Berlin Senate Department for Justice.

As the Berlin Regional Court announced, Malsack-Winkemann will initially no longer be involved in the current decisions of the court.

The lawyer left the civil chamber 19a, which is responsible for construction matters, on Wednesday, said a spokeswoman for the court.

The business distribution plan was changed accordingly by emergency order.

According to the information, Malsack-Winkemann is still available as a judge on a so-called standby list.

The court did not provide any information about Malsack-Winkemann's employment and referred to the responsibility of the Senate Justice Department.

Justice Senator Lena Kreck (left) announced that she would try again to retire Malsack-Winkemann.

Last October, the administrative court in Berlin had rejected this.

On the other hand, Kreck appealed.

"Apparently the Senate administration was correct in its assessment," said Kreck.

You will "exhaust all instruments to remove the accused completely from the judiciary".

As a former AfD member of the Bundestag, Malsack-Winkemann should have local knowledge of the Reichstag building.

So, it is assumed, she could join the network around the alleged head of the network, Henry XIII.

Prince Reuss may have been helpful.

Former Bundeswehr officer arrested in Italy

According to the Italian police, a

suspected member of the terrorist group who

was arrested in Italy is a former officer of a Bundeswehr special unit.

The 64-year-old was caught in a hotel in Ponte San Giovanni.

The man is currently being extradited.

According to the dpa news agency

, another policewoman is also suspected of being

connected to the network.

Accordingly, the woman's rooms in NRW were searched.

A spokesman for the NRW Ministry of the Interior did not want to comment on this.

A written statement only said that three of the more than 130 properties in Germany were in NRW.

Investigations against several state officials

According to the investigators' findings so far, the suspects surrounding Prince Reuss have been planning an armed attack on the Bundestag and the arrest of politicians since November 2021.

Apparently, the men and women assumed that unrest would break out in Germany as a result.

In their imagination, parts of the security forces would then have shown solidarity with the terrorist group, which would have led to an "overthrow."

It was previously known that, in addition to Malsack-Winkemann, several former soldiers of the Bundeswehr and an active sergeant who serves as a logistician in the KSK were among those arrested.

In addition, at least one suspended police officer is among those arrested.
