In each person's growth stage, as the circle of life expands, they often have different views on things.

Cai Xueer (Tiffany), who majored in biomedical engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, likes to go out of the campus to meet people from different backgrounds and explore another side of society that cannot be seen on campus, so as to broaden her horizons.

Last year, Tiffany was awarded the Link’s Undergraduate Scholarship for her excellent grades and outstanding interview performance.

She is very busy studying in university, writing papers and doing group projects with her classmates, she is too busy to breathe.

However, she still tries to find time to actively participate in volunteer services after school. This summer, she participated in the Volunteer Month activity organized by Link.

The cheerful and outgoing Tiffany said: "I like to explore things that have nothing to do with academic subjects. I see more and learn more." She participated in Link’s Volunteer Month activity a few months ago to help Link’s funded Food Cherish. Lok Fu Market collects vegetables and fruits, and then is responsible for washing vegetables and putting cooked dishes into lunch boxes.

After experiencing it personally, she was amazed at the affluent society in Hong Kong, where the disparity between rich and poor is much more serious than she imagined.

"There are so many people who need the free lunch boxes, especially in the fifth wave of the epidemic, many people are at a standstill."

Volunteer service broadens life

Tiffany worked as a volunteer at Food Cherish during the summer vacation, preparing hot meals for those in need.

In the workshops organized by Link, Tiffany expressed her views and insights on current issues.

In addition to helping those in need, this volunteer work allowed Tiffany to see different aspects of society, meet friends from different backgrounds and walks of life, and broaden her life.

As for the 20,000 yuan Link Scholarship for College Students, Tiffany said that part of it has been used to pay tuition fees, and part of it has been saved. She hopes to apply for an exchange student in an Australian or European university next year and use it for living expenses.

The scholarship also helps reduce her reliance on family members for financial support.

She revealed that she will continue to apply for the Link Scholarship this year, and at the same time, she will try her best to get out of the campus, go out to the society, and learn more about things in her busy spare time.

Scholarships help grassroots youth move upward

Fifty judges from the government, public organizations, social welfare organizations, business circles and media participated in the Link's Undergraduate Scholarship Review Day.

The Link University Student Scholarship that Tiffany received is an annual project launched by Link’s "Love Gathering Program". The program is non-means-tested and rewards students who are the first generation of three generations of families to enter local universities, so as to achieve the goal of upward mobility for grassroots youth .

The plan has awarded 1,380 scholarships this year, with a total investment of 27.6 million yuan.

The scholarship review day for the new year was successfully held on November 19.

This year, the number of college students applying for scholarships is the largest ever at 2,084. After review, about 340 college students entered the selection interview on the day, and finally 220 scholarship recipients were selected, each of whom will receive 20,000 yuan.

Under the epidemic situation, the reviewers will continue to adopt a mixed mode of physical and online interviews.

How can students prepare for scholarship interviews?

Li Wanqiu, general manager of the Investor and Financial Education Committee, who was the judge for the second consecutive year this year, provided "tips". It is best to "learn from the experience" of the brothers and sisters who have been interviewed to understand the interview procedures and review requirements, which will be more effective.

Another member of the human resources team of the Hong Kong Financial Development Council, Yan Weihua, who was judged in the second year, said that the average level of the students this year is quite high, and some of them impressed him even more. For example, they worked as volunteers in junior high school and planned activities in high school ; In life planning, such as the development of personal interests, and even future work are very well deployed.

All scholarship recipients will automatically become members of the Link Alumni Association, and can participate in the diversified activities and workshops organized by Link for the Alumni Association for free, and become a platform for them to help each other, grow together and face challenges.

Award-winning students will also have the opportunity to participate in Link’s summer intern training program and management trainee program to explore their career potential.
